Beamshield™ Plus Loadings & Toppings

Beamshield™ Plus is the most flexible insulated infill system for suspended floors available. Partition walls for Domestic dwellings up to 5kN/lin metre* can be placed parallel and perpendicular to the span of the beam and point loads up to 4.0 kN* anywhere on the floor, even on the cantilevered edge.

All loadings have been full scale tested by a UKAS independent laboratory to Ultimate limit state and beyond to ensure that Architects can specify Beamshield™ Plus with complete confidence. Permissible load bearing for  underfloor insulation is dependent upon the chosen concrete strength and reinforcement. The use of micro fibre reinforced concrete is restricted to non NHBC sites only.

  1. The total imposed characteristic value of the uniformly distributed load and moveable partitions in communal areas in flats will not exceed 2.5 kN/m-2
  2. Line loads heavier than 1 kN must be supported by the foundation or directly beneath a beam.
  3. Line loads of 3 kN parallel to the beam must be no greater than 25% of the total span of the beam

  • Note that self levelling/compacting concrete must be in accordance with BS EN 206:2013. Slump Flow classes should be SF2, SF3 or SF4. (Consistency classes, including slump flow classes, are given in BS EN 8500-1:2015 and European guidelines for self compacting concrete May 2005).
  • Note that the slump class for standard concrete should be Class S3 with a sand content greater than 47.5% and aggregate must comply with BS EN 12620:2002
  • Note that the minimum residual Flexural strength of the macro-polymer fibre concrete topping is 1.6 MPa at 05mm CMOD and 1.73 MPa at 3.5mm CMOD
  • Note that macro-polymer fibre content for each load of concrete should be measured in accordance with BS EN 14488-7:2007
  • Note that micro fibre reinforced concrete is not accepted on NHBC sites.
